Whitby Bin Men

Whitby Gazette | Naked binmen raise £2,000 for good cause
The 12 workers from Scarborough Borough Council’s waste and recycling departments stripped off last year with just pieces of recyling equipment hiding their modesty.
...The cheque for £2033.60 was handed over to the two charities that will benefit from the money – Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Help for Heroes.
I'm not finding any hint that the calendars were ever available via mail or web order, only from local merchants. But read more at Forces Pen Pals, Scarborough Council and Real Whitby Magazine. Or just search for "Whitby Ben Men calendar". And congratulations to all involved!

The car wash that wasn't

Hunky calendar boys banned from Epsom insist they are real firemen (From Your Local Guardian)
First the Fire Brigade's poster boys were banned from doing a charity car wash, then questions were asked about whether they were even real firefighters.
To add insult to injury, the people appearing to question their bona-fides were fellow fire fighters from Epsom fire station.
There's no mention of the calendar itself, which I suppose is either too late (for 2011) or too early (for 2012). But I'm guessing that when it's available, it'll be mentioned at the Fire Fighters Charity page.

Au Naturel, Too

Calendar for a cause - Country Messenger
The 18-month calendar showcases many of the well-known Scandia and Marine on St. Croix [MN] residents posing nearly-nude behind the items of their trade.

Professional photographer Verna Pitts and her business partner, graphic artist Jeni O'Brien, masterminded the project. The two were inspired by the movie "Calendar Girls," in which members of a ladies' social club pose nude for a fundraiser calendar.

As the "Too" in the name suggestions, the 2011-2012 calendar is the second of its kind. Pitts and O'Brien produced the first calendar in 2006, which also featured residents of Scandia and Marine nearly-nude, to raise funds for Jenna Lynn, a teen from Scandia who was battling a rare form of bone cancer. Jenna died in 2008 at 18.

Jenna's parents, Jeff and Jan Lynn, posed for the latest edition of the calendar. Jan said the original calendar helped pay for cancer treatments and improved the quality of life for her daughter. With a second calendar in the works, the two said they were honored to be on its pages as a way to give back to those who had given to them.

"We needed to be in there for somebody else," Jan Lynn said. "It's for a good cause and it brings the two communities together."
Now, six years after the first calendar, the towns again came together to create a calendar, this time for Toni Poletes, an owner of Ostlund's Marine Garage. Poletes, 52, has metastatic breast cancer and is struggling to pay medical bills after her insurance notified her she maxed out her coverage in March.

New Bern NC

Women, 70 and up, pose nude for charity - WCTI New Bern
The first calendar came out in 2008, this is the second installment.
"That was going to be the one and only one we did. Well here I sit. Got talked into doing it again and we just had the best time," Fawcett said.
Profits from the $15 calendars will go to two local charities: M.E.R.C.I. Clinic and Religious Community Services.
I haven't found a way to order it.

    Marc Jacobs Fall 2011

    Credit: Vogue.com

This was like a sophisticated haven for polka dots.  Gigantic, almost cartoonish polka dots.  Marc had them over everything. And it was awesome.  Marc is truly amazing at reinterpreting historical fashion movements into his own.  For Fall 2011, the wild and free-volumed seventies of Spring went out the window.  It was all structure and discipline à la Dior’s New Look silhouette.  In fact, this followed the vein of his typical collection for Louis Vuitton: heightened sense of luxury and glamour but with a heavy dose of playfulness.  That’s very Marc actually.  He essentially established a tongue-in-cheek almost cartoonish vision of femininity.   I love how he manages to make strict tailoring (that doesn’t explicitly mold to the body, mind you) playful.

    Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 41

And amidst all the fifties cutesy-ness, Marc has embedded some brilliant design technique.  The cut of the pencil skirts is lovely; they are well-proportioned and give shape without stiffness.  Which is interesting considering the fabric was stiffened on purpose to add body to the clothes.  Thus they do not sculpt a woman’s body frame quite like old school Alaïa, but dramatically standaway.  I love how it evokes the hourglass sensuality without being explicitly formfitting.   Marc always reinterprets but never straight up mimics under the guise of paying homage.
I never really understood how a collection could be deemed “witty.”  Fashion journalists and editors love to apply that to Miuccia’s designs, but I could never really see past the kitschy aspects of it.  But now I totally see it in Marc’s collection.  He reminds us of a great fashion period where structure had reigned and then transforms it into a playful rendition.  One can easily fall into the caricature of it (especially since he embossed like everything with polka dots), but Marc manages to bring attention to the stereotypical social construct of femininity at that time without falling into farce.  And for that, I tip my hat at you good sir.

Miu Miu brand is best known for its hugely important role in women’s fashion market. Be it dresses, shoes or handbags; millions of women always look forward to its collection. Those who love bright colors and polka dots should definitely take a closer look at Miu Miu Shoes Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. Miu Miu Spring 2011 Footwear Collection is pretty unique and really interesting:

    Pin-up for Heroes

The idea was simple: To create a calendar recreating the stylish pinup girls of the 1940’s and 50’s using a mixture of professional and amateur models, with all services being given for free and all proceeds going straight to Help For Heroes. The calendar would be stylish, glamorous and tasteful, appealing to all, young and old, male and female.
The 2011 Calendar raised over £4,000 for Help for Heroes. Apparently there are still limited quantities available at Pin-up for Heroes. And there are links to the first edition in 2010.

This group won't be producing a 2012 edition, but see Cheeky Calendar Girls.

    Maureen Fanning Hospice calendar

A woman who stripped off to raise funds for the hospice that cared for her dying husband has spoken of her pride as she handed the centre £3,000.
Marion Muirhead posed in the nude with her family and friends for a charity calendar in memory of her husband Ian.
He died of cancer in July, after being cared for at the Maureen Fanning Hospice in Ayrshire for two years.
His 90 year-old mother, May, also appears in the calendar, which has sold around 400 copies.
See the Press Association (article mirrored in Herald Scotland, Kilkenny People and many other places). I can't find any way to actually buy the thing on the web.

    Zander Calendar

A group of 12 mothers from Sunderland have stripped naked and posed for a calendar to raise funds for an eight-year-old boy with cancer.
The young boy was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in March – a disease which affects less than 60 children in the UK each year.
    This is simply breathtaking.

    Friends of Julia Koper

Julia was born with a mysterious genetic disorder which left her both physically and mentally disabled requiring her to use a special NF-Walker frame to help her stay upright, but the price is beyond her parents’ means.
“Of course, we could have made a calendar with flowers and butterflies in it, but nudity sells so we decided to overcome our embarrassment in order to help her.”
I'll say they did. The images in this calendar are more explicit than the average garden club charity calendar. They also set a high standard of professionalism: These pictures are unapologetically beautiful. I wish I could tell you how to order one, but so far I haven't found any way to order them.

    Puppy Love

A charity calendar has upset animal lovers and vets alike after it featured racy images of scantily-clad women in bizarre poses with dogs that they say suggested bestiality.

The 2011 Puppy Love calendar is intended to raise money for an animal rescue charity in Wicklow, Ireland.

...The photographs have caused quite a stir, especially when for the month of March 22-year-old Polish model Agata Dembiecka is shown holding a small dog at her naked breast. [Sify news.]

Well, a quick look at the photographer's page reveals (ahem) that the image isn't out of character. For the record, I don't disapprove. On the other hand, I realize it isn't everyone's cup of tea, so if you want to see it, you're going to have to click through. (This calendar doesn't precisely fit this site's mission, since the models are professional models. I don't care.)
