In Bed with the Nightshift

The Nightshift Blog Week 60: Laura Keenan
Well the last two weeks have been very glamorous and exciting, as you’ve no doubt heard we had the photoshoot for The Nightshift contribution to the STV Appeal 2011...aaah yes the charity calendar aptly titled “In Bed with the Nightshift.”
I’m not gonna lie, I hate getting my picture taken, when they said they wanted me in nightwear I was less than keen, but then they told me what the appeal was all about and I gladly let them remove the metaphorical gun from my head! Now, I know it seems incongruous that I was willing to be dressed up like a lady of loose morals to raise money for children BUT weird as it may sound, in an effort to give Nightshifters a smile and a giggle while they raised money for a fabulous cause – that is indeed what I did! Great fun it was too!
Wait til you see the calendar! In fact, they go on sale today!!! Go straight to The Nightshift website www.stv.tv/thenightshift and if you look at the middle of the page on the left hand side you’ll see The Nightshift logo and the link to buy the 2012 calendar! They are selling like hotcakes already which is fabulous as all the money raised in Scotland stays in Scotland! :D
Wait a minute, she's a television presenter and she hates to have her picture taken? Funny line of work to get into.

Bare Because We Care

Bare Because We Care
Springs Rotaract Club is a Community-based Youth Volunteer organisation which serves the needs of various people within our immediate community and around the country. In order to meet these demands we hold several fundraisers throughout the year and also try to increase awareness of what Rotaract is about.
A good name can be used more than once, especially if it's true. I can't find any reports of how well the calendar did.

Au Naturel, Too

Calendar for a cause - Country Messenger
The 18-month calendar showcases many of the well-known Scandia and Marine on St. Croix [MN] residents posing nearly-nude behind the items of their trade.

Professional photographer Verna Pitts and her business partner, graphic artist Jeni O'Brien, masterminded the project. The two were inspired by the movie "Calendar Girls," in which members of a ladies' social club pose nude for a fundraiser calendar.

As the "Too" in the name suggestions, the 2011-2012 calendar is the second of its kind. Pitts and O'Brien produced the first calendar in 2006, which also featured residents of Scandia and Marine nearly-nude, to raise funds for Jenna Lynn, a teen from Scandia who was battling a rare form of bone cancer. Jenna died in 2008 at 18.

Jenna's parents, Jeff and Jan Lynn, posed for the latest edition of the calendar. Jan said the original calendar helped pay for cancer treatments and improved the quality of life for her daughter. With a second calendar in the works, the two said they were honored to be on its pages as a way to give back to those who had given to them.

"We needed to be in there for somebody else," Jan Lynn said. "It's for a good cause and it brings the two communities together."
Now, six years after the first calendar, the towns again came together to create a calendar, this time for Toni Poletes, an owner of Ostlund's Marine Garage. Poletes, 52, has metastatic breast cancer and is struggling to pay medical bills after her insurance notified her she maxed out her coverage in March.

The calendar is done in the theme of the Movie "Calendar Girls" and both animals and humans are "au natural."

Unforgettable Shetland

It’s a daring fundraising mission which has become the talk of an entire Scottish island.

Locals on Shetland have been persuaded to strip off for a nude calendar, which is being sold to raise funds for a new cancer support centre.

But the identities of the models are being kept a closely guarded secret, sparking speculation over who has dared to bare all. [Daily Express.]

In this interesting twist, the models' faces are not visible because they are turned away from the camera or seen in silhouette (see Shetlopedia). See more at the Daily Record and BBC News. The calendars were ten pounds each, but the official site is no longer taking orders.

Royal Opera House

The rareified world of the Royal Opera House has never seen anything quite like this. Some of the institution's star performers have stripped naked for a racy charity calendar.

The male and female artists, along with an assortment of backstage staff, posed entirely naked for the project to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

They include Royal Ballet dancer Sian Murphy, 30, photographed in one of the boxes at Covent Garden wearing nothing but diamonds. Miss Murphy dedicated her appearance to her father, who was diagnosed with cancer but survived.

Friends of The Arts Forum

A group of artists have shed their painting gowns to pose for a naked calendar. Members of The Friends of The Arts Forum have got together to produce the naughty calendar which features various artists in cheeky poses.

University of East Anglia

In a bid to raise thousands of pounds for the life-saving East air ambulance, the medical students from the University of East Anglia were talked into shedding their clothes for a new charity calendar, which is now on sale.

They joined more than 150 peers from organisations including the student magazine Concrete, the women's rugby team and the korfball team who were willing to get naked - in some instances braving freezing conditions to have their photographs taken.

The Cream of the Crop

A NAKED calendar featuring a Worcestershire student has raised more than £1,000 in its first hour of being on sale.

Cathy Righton, a 22-year-old from Hill, near Pershore, chose to support her fellow students at the Harper Adams University College in Shropshire, along with the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution by stripping off for the fund-raising calendar.

She said: “I wouldn’t normally just get naked in the principal’s garden but as it was for a good cause it would have been rude not to."

Fire Fighters of Peoria

The 2009 Fire Fighters of Peoria calendar, which goes on sale Dec. 5 for $10 at various locations, contains glossy photo spreads of 23 men and women.

"It raises morale and it's fun to do," said Capt. Tim Allen of the calendar for which he posed.

Money generated from the sales of the calendar will be used to fund Afro American Fire Fighters of Peoria community-based events, like a Christmas Party and gift giveaway for underprivileged youth in the area. With help from Peoria's Afro-American Police League, the groups invite about 200 children to the holiday event, which includes a show at a local movie theater, plus concessions.

Proceeds also go toward the Edward Gaines and Alvin Richards scholarship fund. Gaines was the first black Peoria firefighter; Richards the first president of the AAFFP.

Perfectly Aged

When Laurie Ford of Gulf Breeze saw the Council on Aging of West Florida's call for senior citizens to appear in a benefit calendar, she immediately nominated her lovely stepmother-in-law, Jacque Spirson-Ford.

The only hitch? She didn't realize it was a "nearly nude" calendar.

"It was like, 'Whoops!'" Ford said, laughing. "I didn't know until Jacque called to tell me she'd been contacted about doing a nude calendar. Of course, she thought it was funny."

The 79-year-old Spirson-Ford, who was photographed lounging on a motorcycle with her dog, Oscar, is one of several area senior citizens who dared to bare it all (behind some carefully placed props) for the council's 2009 "Perfectly Aged" calendar. The popular calendar series, now in its third year, is the agency's largest fundraiser.
They're $20 plus postage: Get it from the Council on Aging of West Florida. Read about it at the Pensacola News-Journal.
