Downe Women's Institute

A group of Women's Institute members have posed almost naked as animals wearing little more than body paint for a fund-raising calendar.

The group of grandmothers had their bodies painted in the theme of pantomime characters for their annual charity project.

The women, who are from Downe WI, near Bromley, in Kent, have stripped off for the past two years but decided to enlist the help of professional artists to make this year's pictures better.
Read about it in the Telegraph. I haven't found a way to order it.

Women of UW

The idea of a UW calendar came from a group of about five business students enrolled in "Entrepreneurship: Creating a Company." The two-quarter-long class requires students to form companies, write a business plan, pitch the idea to real investors and use investors' money to launch their business. [Daily of the University of Washington.]
The group's initial business plan: Produce both "Men of the UW" and "Women of UW" calendars with photographs of cute college students and sell them on campus.

But after conducting a little market research -- surveying business experts and potential buyers who would shell out $15 for a 2007-2008 calendar -- the team of budding entrepreneurs found little demand for the men's version.

"The men were much more into the idea. ... We probably got twice as many male models as female models," said Zachary Meissner, a UW junior and the financial officer of the group that created the calendar. "But at the same time, the males were also way more willing to purchase the product." [Seattle Post-Intelligencer.]
Well, duh.

The URL womenofuw.com doesn't go anywhere useful (not surprising, the class must be done by now), so I presume that win, lose, or draw, the calendar is no longer available. I hope it worked out well for everyone involved.

Calendario Romano

The calendar goes for $12.25 with some of the proceeds benefiting The Food Chain an HIV/AIDS charity out of London. The official site also features pictures from previous years going back to 2004. Note: The men pictured are not necessarily genuine priests. This is disclosed on the official site as well.

Misplaced Calendars of 2007

As I continue to scan the web for calendars, and search engines refine their code, and more news sites digitize their archives, I find additional calendars that I didn't catch when they were new. The following 2007 calendars are still good for a few months, and some of these organizations are planning 2008 editions.

Women:
Men:
Co-Ed:
And a double-header: Two calendars, presumably one of each:

Pin-Ups For Vets

A few years ago, I started seeing news articles about under-funded Veterans’ healthcare programs. Then, there were stories about older Veterans who lay in bed day after day, never receiving any visitors. Reports started surfacing on TV about the severe injuries sustained by our troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The more I heard about the uphill battles of our Wounded Warriors, the more convinced I was of the need to produce a project that would bring in funds to support all of our hospitalized Veterans.

Purchase the calendar at Pin-Ups for Vets. Press coverage at Wonkette and Diary of a Nudist.

Top Shots: Women of Professional Golf

This is a 2007 calendar, but it's back in the news lately because one of the golfers, Nikki Garrett, is suing Zoo Weekly magazine for defamation and breach of copyright. Apparently Zoo Weekly, a "ladmag", not only printed the accompanying picture without permission (oops), but suggested that Ms Garrett was the kind of woman who would want to appear in Zoo Weekly.

Buy it from WomensGolfCalendar.com, if you can. (It's officially sold out, but still available as a premium with purchase of Fantom golf balls.) See also Sydney Morning Herald (and again), Fox Sports, World of Golf, Golfblogger, About.com. If all you want is pictures, well, I'm torn. I should encourage you to support the charity rather than mention the Golf-babes blog, where most of the photos can be seen for free if you search for them.

Calendar Girls Get Dressed

Naked librarians. Naked folk singers. Middle-aged village women posing nude. As for the anything goes as long as it's going to charity, thirteen of Britain's top topless models have said enough is enough.

With tongue in cheek humor, the models hold that modeling nude should be left to the professionals.
So, in a classic tipping of a sacred cow, the models have decided to put out a calendar of their own, only no one will be taking off their clothes. Instead, the models, who will be bucking the current calendar charity trend of scantily-clad amateurs, strike a professional pose fully-clothed in Calendar Girls Get Dressed For Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

...According to photographer Stuart White, "I wanted to let the glamour girls make fun of themselves. Their normal image is all to do with partying and the high life, which is why all the portraits show them finding their housework difficult."

It doesn't quite fit the stated purpose of my list, but really, how can you resist? From The Cancer Blog. Buy the calendar at Lulu.

Austrian Ski Instructors

From WayOdd:
Austrian ski instructors in Arlberg region have agreed to bare it all after students ask them to release a naked calendar. A company spokesman said, "We often get men staring at the female instructors and many women seem to sign up just to flirt with their teachers, so we thought, why not give them what they want?"
Apparently this has been a phenomenally successful item for them. I'm not seeing any mention of a charity, though, so this may be a tad outside my target area.

See also Ananova, Kink (1, 2), Natives.co.uk, and the official site at Skilehrerinnen.at (or here). And I believe this page from the Burg Hotel refers to the same calendar. Fair warning: They don't hide behind things.

Bare Because We Care

And this year's winner of the press coverage jackpot is... the Humane Society of Jefferson County's "Bare Because We Care" 2007. Dinesh Ramde of the Associated Press can be proud that his (her?) sentence following appears on hundreds of major newspapers and television news operations' websites:

Miss December is wearing nothing but a Santa hat and a smile. Oh, and holding one strategically placed cat.

I mean, who can ask for a better lede than that? Congratulations, Denesh. (I suppose, if one works for AP, one must get used to seeing one's words and by-line in outlets worldwide. Little ole me still thinks it's kinda cool.)

Miraculously, the Jefferson County Humane Society's servers haven't collapsed yet.

Even more miraculously, neither have mine. That AP story brought me about ten times my normal traffic, as it tempted people to Google for "nude charity calendar" with their new Christmas computers. (I think I'm in the first page of results for just about any permutation of those words.)

For those of you who are new here, welcome! Glad to see you.

UPDATE: In a story for the 2012 edition, WEAU reports that the 2007 calendar raised $30,000! Wahoo!

Rotary's 2007 calendar bares all but the X-rated details

Now Gresham [Oregon] has caught on to the naked calendars craze. ...

The Gresham Rotary Club's 2007 calendar features 16 local businessmen and women baring it all -- well, almost all -- in an effort to boost fundraising for high school scholarships. And while the idea rankles some members, the calendars are proving immensely popular. ...

This year, with the help of the $20 calendar, the group hopes to raise its donation to $18,000, and it quickly is closing in on the goal. Rotary officials say 500 of the 1,500 calendars printed a week ago have been distributed.

Rotary President Tom Graves, who poses as Mr. February hiding the middle of his body under a breakfast tray, suggested the idea. Although most Rotarians and the group's board approved the idea, about 20 percent of the 70 members opposed it, Graves said. Some chose not to display or sell the calendar, and one man quit the Rotary Club.
Apparently you can't order it over the web, but if you find yourself in Gresham, pick one up for me.

"This does not portray safe"

Turns out 'Mr. August' is school superintendent
MANNING, Iowa -- A superintendent who posed as a nearly naked ''Mr. August'' in a charity calendar is rebuffing critics who say it amounts to soft-core porn.

Roger Schmiedeskamp joined other men in appearing in a calendar that will raise money for the Rotary Club.

Schmiedeskamp's image is superimposed on an old schoolhouse room behind a desk. He is shirtless and his legs are bare under the desk.

''A kid is supposed to be safe in the classroom. This does not portray safe,'' parent Kathy Swanson said.

But the school board backs the superintendent.
