1940s Makeup Look: Beauty through the Decades III

I'm now down to the third part of my Beauty Through the Decades, the 1940s look. Here are some information regarding the makeup trends and hairstyles from the 1940s.

The women of 1940s were the women of WWII century.

HAIRSTYLES

Hair were longer and more natural during the 1940s.

THE PEEK-A-BOO BANGS

This hairstyle was made famous by one of the 40s beauty icon, Veronica Lake.

MAKEUP

FACE

The makeup was more natural and simple during the 1940s. To achieve this look, a slightly darker than your skin tone foundation was used and set with powder that is lighter than your skin color with a hint of natural pinkish hue.

BLUSH / ROUGE

Red rouge with pink undertones were used to get that rosy look. Bright pink with fuchsia undertones were also popular. Rouge  was applied on top of the cheekbones and brushed up towards the temples of the face.

EYES / EYEBROWS

Since 1940s went for that natural look, they preferred a more natural pair of eyebrows but with well defined arches. Eyebrows were groomed with a touch of petroleum jelly for a more neat Hollywood look.

Muted grays and browns were popular for the eyes. Black or dark brown for eyeliners but only small amounts were used. The star of the 1940s eye makeup were the lashes. Heavy coats of mascara were applied on the upper lashes.

LIPS

Lips during the 1940s should appear fuller. The upper lips were exaggerated a little bit to have that larger fuller mouth.

LIPS COLOR PLANS

The Mono Tone

Orang Red, Pink Red, Fuchsia, Light Red

The Contrast Tone

Brick Red, Deep Red, Mahogany, Crimson, Vermillion

BEAUTY ICONS

...and of course who can forget Rosie the Riveter? Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon in the United States which represents the women who worked in the factories during WWII. Rosie the Riveter was a symbol of feminism and women's economic power.
