Let's flex our "naked" power and get what we want for a change. Please write a brief, polite note today. After nearly 19 years of Haulover naturists giving their money to for-profit, non-naturist concession owners who gave nothing back to benefit Haulover Beach, and 19 years of these same profit-driven owners never helping the organizations that worked so hard to keep its nude status legal, we say:
ENOUGH! After nearly 19 years of suffering at best mediocre food at South Beach prices, with no healthy selections from these same profit-driven owners, Haulover Beach goers can finally let their voices be heard and show their "naked" power by taking real ownership of "our" beach - "Green Power".
B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation Institute is the 501 (c) 3 nonprofit naturist organization that brought you the nude beachside showers, the tiki huts for free shade and small organized social gatherings, the electric beach wheelchairs and the special beach events over the past ten years with music, food, fun, libations, etc. The latest event was the internationally recognized Nude Year's Festival and first overnight beach camp-out four months ago.
B.E.A.C.H.E.S. was founded and is headed by Shirley Mason, affectionately known as the "Mother of Haulover Beach," who has dedicated her volunteer efforts and resources to keeping our beaches bare. She arranged for B.E.A.C.H.E.S. to have the mini BeachMall concession through Miami-Dade Parks Program Partnership Agreement for nonprofits. It operated at the main beach entrance under the middle tiki hut and at the light blue trailer on weekends with her staff of three.
Now that Toby's contract has been revoked, and before a long-term contract is awarded in six to nine months, B.E.A.C.H.E.S. has submitted a proposal to take over the food/beverage and beach equipment rental services for the interim period and pay Miami-Dade County a fair fixed price and percentage of its gross sales.
B.E.A.C.H.E.S. has wanted this opportunity to serve and treat Haulover Beach visitors like they deserve - with respect and dignity. It has also wanted to use these concession proceeds to fulfill its nonprofit mission and continue Haulover's capital improvements and user benefits.
B.E.A.C.H.E..S. Foundation has some stiff competition, especially from the Boucher Brothers - a large, wellknown, well-funded beach equipment rental concessionaire from South Beach, who may be partnering with owners of the Nikki Beach Club. Hello higher South Beach pricing!
In our nearly 19 years of working with Miami-Dade Parks, they're not known for rewarding hard work, honesty and loyalty, even when OUR beach has proven to be profitable. The bottom line: the parks department looks at what's easy, and having the right lobbyist seems to be the formula we've observed downtown.
Getting this beach concession will give naturists and B.E.A.C.H.E.S. the credibility and standing with other governments to establish and maintain new clothing-optional beaches in Florida and beyond. The Turn Key "Free Beaches" initiative, a B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Project - www.beachesfoundation.org/freebeach.pdf - is already in process with the City of Key West and with the Florida DEP/ State Parks Division at select park-beaches.
Miami-Dade Park administrators will likely be making a decision this week, if they haven't already. They have not announced their decision, so minds can be changed. Therefore, your letter is critical and time is of the essence.
Please send your message today!
IN YOUR OWN WORDS, tell Parks Dept. and County administrators:
I want B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation to have the concession for Haulover Beach.. They've earned it and Parks will profit.
